Port Erin

At twobob towers we listen to lots of new music. Sadly (this is no exaggeration) most of it emulates Pantera, Slipknot, Muse, Editors or Paul Weller. Our new favourite bands show none of this lack of creative imagination. Just listen to Breton and Two Wounded Birds who we predict big things for this year. Sure you can grab snippets of influences here and there, they’re not creating new genres or breaking down the fabric of music as we know it, but they are at least blending styles in an interesting way.  Our latest breath of fresh air is a band from the west country called Port Erin.

This three-piece blend folk jazz and funk while anchoring it to rock and even ska rhythms. However I have a sneaking suspicion that ‘These Wounds’ is more indicative of where this band are headed. There’s a maturity and a delicacy that seems to have its roots in folk yet this track would still tempt fans of Radiohead. The eponymously titled glitchy opener is a tease of the highest order and I for one would like to know if there’s more of this in store. They have been tucked away working on new tunes and I’m expecting them to be weilding a few when we see them at the fox & firkin this saturday (8th). Come along its a mere £3 before 8pm and you can catch Robert Rorison too.
